Beta (β)
How much an asset moves on average per 1% move of a reference (e.g. the driver or BTC).
Beta measures a price's sensitivity to a reference move: the whole market, Bitcoin, or a sector's driver. β = 1 means it moves at the same pace. β > 1 is amplification (more volatility and risk, e.g. β 1.8 means ~1.8% per 1% of the reference move). β < 1 is a milder reaction (a defensive profile). A negative β moves the opposite way. High beta offers more upside but also more downside. It is a double-edged sword. The concept comes from traditional finance (the CAPM model); in crypto it's used for sector lead-lag pairs and to assess a portfolio's exposure to BTC moves.
In plain words
Tells you how strongly a coin reacts to a move in the market or its sector leader. Beta above 1 = bigger moves both ways (more drama), below 1 = calmer.
Example
A satellite with a beta of 1.5: when the driver rises 2%, the satellite has historically risen ~3%. However, it also falls harder when the driver drops 2%.
