Block Time

Average time between two consecutive blocks.

Block time = block frequency. Affects finality and throughput. BTC 10 min, ETH 12s, SOL 0.4s. Faster = quicker finality but more forks and instability risk.

In plain words

How often, on average, a new block of transactions is produced. Bitcoin: 10 min (slow but secure). Ethereum: 12s. Solana: 0.4s. Shorter block time = faster confirmations, but more network instability.

Example

BTC tx needs 6 confirmations = 60 min finality. ETH swap ~15s. SOL tx ~1s. That's why SOL hosts meme trading.
