Japanese Candlesticks

Chart format showing open, close, high and low in one symbol.

A candle has a body (open-close) and wicks (to high/low). Green = close above open (up), red = below (down). Invented in the 18th century by Japanese rice traders (Homma). Every candle pattern (doji, hammer, engulfing, shooting star) carries a signal.

In plain words

Each bar with wicks on the chart is a candle: shows where price opened, closed, and the high/low.

Example

BTC daily candle Mar 5, 2024: open 67k, close 69k, high 69.5k, low 66k -> big green with short lower wick.
