Momentum
The speed and direction of price change over a window (e.g. 7 days), how fast the market is moving.
Momentum measures price change over time: simplest as a percentage change over a window (e.g. +12% in 7 days). The sign gives direction (positive = uptrend, negative = downtrend) and the absolute value gives the strength of the move. It's a trend-confirming gauge, sensitive to fresh data. Rising momentum at new price highs confirms the trend; weakening momentum despite higher prices is a divergence, a common early sign the move is exhausting. Unlike RSI (normalized to 0–100), momentum is a raw change, so two coins are hard to compare directly without context.
In plain words
Shows how hard and in which direction price is being pushed in recent days. Large positive momentum = a strong move up, large negative = a sharp drop, near zero = the market is flat.
Example
BTC +12% in 7 days is strong positive momentum. If price makes a new high but the 7-day momentum is lower than at the previous high, that's a divergence warning of a weakening trend.
