Advanced Indicators (Funding Rate, Open Interest, futures sentiment)
What it shows
Professional indicators from the derivatives market show not the price itself but the positioning and bias of leveraged traders. A window into where the crowd placed its money and how leveraged it is.
How to read it
The strongest signals are when the data agrees: rising Open Interest + slightly positive funding + price up = a healthy, capital-driven trend. Beware of extremes: very high funding means the crowd is crammed on one side, which paradoxically raises the risk of a sharp reversal. Action: with overheated funding, lean toward caution and tighter risk control rather than chasing the move.
Parameters
- Funding Rate
- A fee swapped every few hours between longs and shorts. Positive = longs pay shorts (bullish crowd).
- Positive reading: Slightly positive: a healthy bullish trend without overheating.
- Negative reading: Extremely high: the market is over-leveraged long, risk of a sharp liquidation cascade (long squeeze).
- Neutral reading: Near zero: balance between bulls and bears.
- Open Interest
- Total value of all open contracts. Measures how much capital is currently committed to derivatives.
- Positive reading: Rising together with price: fresh capital fuels the trend, the move is strong.
- Negative reading: Rising while price falls: downside pressure builds with cascade potential.
- Neutral reading: Falling: positions are being closed, the trend loses fuel.
- 24h Change
- Percentage price change of the coin over 24 hours.
- Positive reading: Above +2%: short-term bullish edge.
- Negative reading: Below -2%: short-term bearish edge.
- Neutral reading: Between -2% and +2%: no clear direction.
- Signal
- An aggregate read (Bullish / Bearish / Neutral) computed from the data above.
- Positive reading: Bullish (green): buyers have the edge.
- Negative reading: Bearish (red): sellers have the edge.
- Neutral reading: Neutral (yellow): no clear edge for either side.
Example
BTC: price +3.5%, Open Interest rising, funding +0.01% (slightly positive). This is a healthy bullish move with capital inflow. Warning sign: funding spiking to +0.10% on a vertical rally, which means the crowd is over-leveraged long and a sudden downside liquidation cascade is possible.
