Crypto sector metrics

What it shows

Grouped on-chain, exchange-flow, infrastructure, DeFi, social and developer metrics for a given project category. It lets you judge fundamentals depending on the coin type (L1, L2, DeFi, meme, etc.).

How to read it

Read metrics in groups and weight them by project type: for PoW L1 hash rate and addresses matter most, for DeFi it is TVL and MCap/TVL, for meme it is flows and community. The strongest picture is when many groups agree in one direction (e.g. exchange accumulation + low MVRV + rising addresses). Practical takeaway: compare MVRV, NVT and active addresses together as a „cycle assessment triangle”.

Parameters

MVRV Ratio
Market value to realized value ratio: a key market-cycle indicator.
Positive reading: Below 1.0: historically an optimal accumulation zone, market „underwater”.
Negative reading: Above 3.5: distribution zone, extreme unrealized profit and correction risk.
Neutral reading: 1.0–2.5: healthy growth without overheating.
NVT Ratio
The „crypto P/E”: market cap divided by daily on-chain transaction volume.
Positive reading: Below 30: actively used network, valuation supported by fundamentals.
Negative reading: Above 100: speculative valuation disconnected from real activity.
Neutral reading: 30–100: valuation in the typical range of an active network.
Active addresses
Unique addresses transacting within 24h: a measure of real network usage.
Positive reading: Rising addresses with a stable price: organic adoption.
Negative reading: Activity drop above 30%: declining real interest.
Exchange flows (inflow/outflow)
How many coins go to exchanges vs how many are withdrawn to private wallets.
Positive reading: Outflow > inflow: accumulation, coins moving to cold storage.
Negative reading: Inflow > outflow: potential selling pressure.
Hash Rate
Total PoW network computing power: a direct security indicator.
Positive reading: Rising hash rate: solid network security fundamentals.
Negative reading: Drop above 20%: possible miner capitulation and selling pressure.
TVL and MCap/TVL
Value locked in smart contracts and its ratio to market cap (a P/E equivalent).
Positive reading: Steady TVL growth with MCap/TVL below 5: healthy, fundamentally supported growth.
Negative reading: Sudden TVL drop above 30%: alarm, potential exploit or capital outflow.
Social and developer metrics
Social activity (sentiment, volume) and developer activity (commits, GitHub stars).
Positive reading: Active code development + a growing, authentic community = strong fundamentals.
Negative reading: No commits and artificial social activity: weak or dead fundamentals.

Example

For an L1 project: MVRV 0.9, NVT 25, rising active addresses and exchange outflow form a coherent picture of a historical accumulation zone. Conversely: MVRV 3.8 + NVT 120 + rising inflow is a classic overheating and distribution setup.
