DXY (US Dollar Index)

What it shows

DXY (the dollar index) measures the strength of the US dollar against a basket of currencies. It is a key macro context: crypto has historically moved inversely to the dollar.

How to read it

Look at direction, not the absolute level: a persistently weakening dollar has historically aligned with crypto bull phases, a strengthening one with pressure. It is background context, not a standalone signal.

Parameters

DXY level / direction
A strong dollar usually drains liquidity from risk assets; a weak one favors them.
Positive reading: A falling DXY is historically a supportive environment for risk assets, crypto included.
Negative reading: A rising DXY is historically a headwind for crypto and risk assets.
Neutral reading: DXY ranging sideways: a neutral macro context.

Example

DXY (the dollar index) weakens and rolls off a local high. Historically looser liquidity conditions favored risk assets, including crypto. A sharply rising DXY historically weighed on crypto; a sideways dollar is a neutral macro backdrop.
