Exchange net flow
What it shows
The balance of ETH flowing onto and off exchanges (multichain): how much enters exchanges (inflow), how much leaves (outflow) and the net difference. A negative netflow means accumulation (coins leaving exchanges), positive means distribution.
How to read it
Look at net first: negative (Accumulation) has historically favored bulls, positive (Distribution) raises supply pressure. Confirm the read with the scale of inflow vs outflow and the transfer counts. A large net from few TX may come from a single entity. Practical takeaway: a sustained negative netflow with rising outflow signals shrinking exchange supply.
Parameters
- Net netflow (ETH)
- The difference between inflow and outflow; the widget labels it Accumulation (negative) or Distribution (positive).
- Positive reading: Negative (Accumulation): coins flow off exchanges into private wallets, historically a bullish-leaning zone.
- Negative reading: Positive (Distribution): coins flow onto exchanges, historically elevated selling pressure.
- Neutral reading: Near zero: balance between inflow and outflow, no clear edge.
- Exchange inflow
- Amount of ETH sent to exchanges plus the number of incoming transfers (TX).
- Negative reading: Spiking: large players are staging coins for selling, supply pressure.
- Neutral reading: Stable: ordinary operational flow with no clear signal.
- Exchange outflow
- Amount of ETH withdrawn from exchanges plus the number of outgoing transfers (TX).
- Positive reading: Clearly higher than inflow: accumulation prevails and coins move to hodl.
- Neutral reading: Close to inflow: no dominant direction of flows.
Example
Netflow -1,250 ETH, outflow clearly exceeding inflow, the „Accumulation” label means that coins are leaving exchanges, historically a bullish-leaning zone. Conversely: netflow +3,000 ETH with a sharp inflow is classic distribution and elevated supply pressure.
