Market Dominance
What it shows
How crypto market capital is distributed between Bitcoin, Ethereum and the rest. It shows percentage shares, sentiment (altseason / risk-off / neutral), a top-project ranking, dominance history and a BTC dominance vs price comparison. A map of where capital is flowing.
How to read it
Dominance alone does not tell you whether the market is rising; it tells you where capital is moving. Falling BTC dominance with a rising market is a classic altseason, and rising dominance with a falling market is a flight to safety. Read the history tab for direction, not a single snapshot. Practical takeaway: in a risk-off phase (rising BTC dominance) alt risk is historically higher, while in altseason watch capital rotate into the stronger projects.
Parameters
- BTC Dominance
- What percentage of total crypto market cap is Bitcoin alone.
- Positive reading: Rising during uncertainty (capital hides in BTC, meaning relative BTC strength).
- Negative reading: Rising fast while the market falls, which means altcoins lose broadly (risk-off).
- Neutral reading: Slowly falling, which means capital rotates from BTC into altcoins (possible altseason).
- ETH Dominance
- Ethereum's share of the whole market: a barometer of large-cap altcoin strength.
- Positive reading: Rising, which means capital enters the alt ecosystem, often a prelude to altseason.
- Negative reading: Falling while BTC dominance rises; large alts weaken versus Bitcoin.
- Neutral reading: Stable: no clear rotation between ETH and BTC.
- Others share
- The combined share of all altcoins outside BTC and ETH in market cap.
- Positive reading: Rising clearly: broad risk appetite, capital seeks smaller projects.
- Negative reading: Shrinking during declines. Capital flees alts toward BTC or stablecoins.
- Sentiment
- An aggregate read of the dominance trend: Altseason, Risk-Off or Neutral.
- Positive reading: Altseason: BTC dominance falls, capital broadly rotates into altcoins.
- Negative reading: Risk-Off: BTC dominance rises, capital flees to safety.
- Neutral reading: Neutral: dominance is stable, no clear capital rotation.
- DeFi Market Cap
- The combined value of decentralized finance projects is a slice of risk appetite.
- Neutral reading: Rising relative to the market usually accompanies on-chain risk-on phases; informational.
- Stablecoin Volume
- 24h stablecoin turnover: it shows how much dry powder is circulating in the market.
- Neutral reading: High turnover signals active capital flows between assets; informational.
Example
BTC dominance falls 54%→51% over two weeks, ETH dominance rises 17%→19%, and sentiment flips to Altseason, meaning capital is rotating from Bitcoin into alts. Conversely, BTC dominance jumping to 57% with a falling market and a Risk-Off label is a classic flight to safety.
